Unique way to recruit talent

There’s nothing wrong with some self-promotion in the Daily Cardinal. One would hope it’ll bring in some aspiring and reasonably intelligent new blood where it’s sorely needed.

  • mmmm, shot taking CB doing what he does best

  • I think it’s relatively neutral. If I wanted to take a shot I’d run over to Monday’s or make it very explicit, like several of the other posts among my 750.

  • maybe the cardinal should get better at doing their job and people wouldn’t hate on them, hell I don’t even read the rag anymore

  • Interesting that the university is partially sponsoring these speakers…

  • Looks good. Wonder how many resumes Kate Shephard will have emailed to her after this event.

  • CB – fresh blood in the DC means you have to wait and see.

  • Well, yeah. That’s the point of the post. I think it’s an innovative idea to improve their paper. I do not believe they tried this in the past.

  • Clarify for me. Are the speakers hyping the paper? Or are they just journalism speakers with Cardinal ties? Either way it’s an impressive group.

Also, Is the rumor true that the DC’s dreadful coverage of city affairs might return to a half-decent level of quality with a change of editor. Last semester is was just so decidedly bad.

  • 11:50- I checked the summer issues and there’s a veteran editor on city, even though the one who had been working it before had only been there a semester. Typically terms last a year at the Cardinal, so maybe they booted her?

  • To clarify for 11:50, the speakers will be talking both about their time at the Cardinal and their own careers, as well as more general topics in the field of journalism. I’ve actually heard one of the guests, David Umhoefer, speak before on pretty much those same topics. He’s quite a fascinating guy.

  • todd, you going to keep producing columns based off what bloggers in Madison write or start thinking for yourself?

  • Ask them about the deer in headlights look the field of traditional journalism has on its face right now.
