New UW student blog alert: Fearless Sifting. The future of campus blogging?

Fearless Sifting.

Patrick (CB commenter, UW freshman) and Sam (same thing, but also add in his new prestigious BH title) have decided to start a blog. It’s mostly Patrick’s blog as their information section explains. They already have quite a few posts. If they keep it going strong, you CB fans can just hop over there next year.

My suggestion to Patrick: in my time I’ve found that people respond better to shorter, easier to read on the fly posts. It’s less intellectual, no doubt, but more people actually READ shorter posts. Add in the longer, column-length spots periodically. And never let your guard down against the campus press and campus elite. Never know where they might strike next.

Fearless Sifting is the blog of UW-Madison freshman Patrick McEwen, though at times it may include some guest commentary from my roommate Sam Clegg. This blog contains my thoughts on campus and Madison area happenings. Fan mail can be sent to fearlesssifting@gmail.com, criticism is also welcome though the comment section works well for that too.

The title of the blog comes from a plaque outside of Bascom Hall that reads something to the effect of “Whatever may be the limitations which trammel inquiry in other forms of media, I believe that the great blogosphere of the University of Wisconsin should ever encourage that continual and fearless sifting and winnowing by which alone truth can be found”

Oh yeah, and I should note that Patrick and Sam were the co-champions of the campus elite tournament bracket challenge. They have won a drink on the CB … when they’re 21.

  • I’ll sift you fearlessly CB!

  • So will CB’s content remain floating around, or is the entire site going to disappear when you move on to bigger and better things?

I’d second your advice to Patrick on short posts as crucial to developing a readership. I’d also add: people tend to read sensationalist posts, but refrain to the extent you’re able to retain legitimacy. Except, of course, when a little fun is in order.

  • what do I get for coming in last in the challenge?

  • passing the torch.

  • the acknowledgment that you’re still an asshole.

  • I haven’t gotten very involved with the blog yet, as it is very much more Patrick’s project than mine. However, I encourage everyone to read it. Patrick has devoted his recent life to it, and I fear that his android programming may malfunction if he encounters failure, causing him to engage in a blood-soaked rampage of retribution against the inferior humans he has condescended to serve. So please read it.

  • Shhh… no one is supposed to know about that

and actually its not so much that I an devoting my life to it, I’ve just diverted some time I used to spend reading the CB
