hey, don’t know if you’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but apparently the university is paying for cab rides home for students (via Memorial Library computer lab worker)
(also feel compelled to disclaim: I didn’t drop that comment because my site’s bootlegging cabbie-related tunes. Before I biked home, got the impression that you could call any cab company– wasn’t just a Saferide-style thing)
Way to go Madison Police… you lockdown Memorial Union, the Red Gym and other strategic positions on campus to protect students. However, I was standing in between the two buildings when the lockdown occurred. Asking a UW-police officer what to do, he told me to go inside or call a cab to get home. About 60 students fled to the streets with me, essentially, nowhere to go. I tried calling a cab, but eventually took refuge in Chadbourne. The lockdown was a great precaution, but what if there was an immediate threat by the Union? Would there be anywhere to take refuge?
